Wild west cliche

Living out here in New Mexico you see tee pees at tourist destinations. The tee pee is not a traditional dwelling for this area. They are very photogenic though.

Aquariums are great places to observe people and there are fish there too.

Random title generation system 01

When I am stumped artistically I turn to my ipod for inspiration. A song chosen at random becomes the title of the picture that I take that day. This image was created to fit "I saw the light" by Hank Williams

I wonder what it does

I spotted this on the wall at UNM Taos, I want a FUTURE CARD. It will be great, it probably levitates and has teeny tiny robots inside.

Here they come

Sometimes you have to break the rules a little. Do not shoot into the sun, they say. Do not put your camera down in sand, they argue. It will ruin it, you will get sand on the sensor and it will be hell to clean up. Well they were right about the second thing, but it was worth it to get this shot.

Goats for all

I saw this sign in St Ives, Cornwall, UK. It was early in the day and I am not sure that the owner of the boats knew what had been done.

Was he a super hero? I think not.

This image is also from the memorial calendar, it is to commemorate Grant Williams the actor who played The Incredible Shrinking Man. The irony is that he died of toxic poisoning after playing a man who shrunk after inhaling mysterious chemicals.

I do not have an obsession with blood, it is only a coincidence

Sometimes I create an image to go with a title, I did a series based on random songs from my ipod. This image was created to go with "Speed King" by Deep Purple. I do not have experience with the title drug but I have heard that your teeth can fall out if you are a speed freak.

A fire in the sky

whilst playing around with a sheet of ruby lith and a pocket digital camera in he snow I took a series of photos that look really apocalyptic. Today I heard "Smoke on the water" by Deep Purple and I went scampering through the archive to find this image.

Another sad, sad superhero

This is my brother wearing a child's spider man mask. The image speaks for itself.

Its like calling diapers Squirts!

This old "Hacks" tin brought back some memories of my childhood. I love that a cough suppressant is so aptly named.

Walking rain clouds

Taos has the most amazing weather, you really feel a connection to nature here. This image of "walking rain clouds" was taken at sunrise one morning, you can see each individual cloud raining.

Not a rabbit

Whilst walking in the wood in Maine I spied this rabbit sitting looking at the mist rolling in from the bay. Carefully and stealth fully I approached camera at the ready, I took this shot and realized it wasn't a rabbit but an old tree stump.

More style than substance

This light was in a restaurant in St Ives, England. The low watt light bulbs were struggling with the black wallpaper and could only illuminate a small patch of wall.

This image, the one I use for my profile, is a child in a rabbit costume on halloween. His way down the rabbit hole is barred he can never return to Wonderland.

waiting for the great leap forward

As the week winds down and I get ready for a busy weekend I set my itunes to random, radio show prep is finally over and I can listen to anything I want to for a few days. The Billy Bragg song "Waiting for the great leap forward" came on and it is the perfect theme song for this moment, a time between administrations, an anticipation of real change is in the air. This image of someone about to take a great leap into the unknown seems to fit.

I don't have any Elvis related images

I have been working all day preparing for my radio show (see my other blog Through the Looking Glass for more details) and this weeks theme is Elvis. I do not have any images that relate to Elvis  but I remembered that he hated flying, well I love to fly, especially in hot air balloons so here is an image I took from a hot air balloon inside the Rio Grande Gorge in Taos. The balloon is round but the shadow tells the truth, only the shadow knows.

superheroes aren't what they used to be

I have been reading a book of short stories called 'Who Can Save Us Now? it has stories about the most unlikely super heroes. This inspired me to dig this image out of the archives.

Not a picture of snow

We are snowed in up here in Taos. I shovelled snow for 3 hours this morning and had to dig 3 different cars out of snow banks. I have taken a lot of great snow images over the last few days but right now I want to forget the snow for a while so here is a photo of a rusty 7up sign that I took in China Camp, California, last summer.

I didn't know they made them in that size.

This photo was taken during the Southend-On -Sea night parade last summer. These three sci-fi buffs did not seem to be associated with any floats, they were proudly marching down the middle of the street showing off their costumes.

Exquisite corpse

Here is a mono-print made with a solar plate from a photograph I took during an exquisite corpse project. It is being used as an illustration in the University of New Mexico literary journal Howl which comes out in February.

new year new posts - At Last!

After way too long I am back posting to the Blog. The studio has been closed during December because of plumbing woes but I am back with a vengeance. I will post more work more often in 2009 -I promise. This Image is a monoprint called "The Fury" I am not sure why.
